Here I document my adventures in travel, lifestyle, and thinking differently with the hope of broadening people’s perspectives. I hope you enjoy!
Here are some resources that I found or were shared with me to help live with anxiety and come down from panic attacks. Much gratitude to all.
I compiled these to remind myself how to cope when things get hard. I hope they can provide you the same strength.
I will often take one of these floral homeopathic remedies if I feel a spike in anxiety or a panic attack coming on. They do not alleviate the symptoms, but make them less intense and thus more manageable.
Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche: Befriend Your Panic
There are a handful of videos where he explains this readily available on YouTube. I linked to my favorite example above. The basic concept is that resisting panic increases its intensity. Instead, you should invite it in as if hosting a rowdy old friend for afternoon tea. In this way, you can make some space with it and observe it. His book, In Love With the World, is also worth a read if you have the time.
Headspace Panicking Mini-Meditation:
I find it very helpful to have an audio track on hand to play in the moment of a panic attack. Headspace’s 3-minute Panicking meditation has served that purpose for me, but you could find a clip online you like or have a friend or family member record a soothing audio file.
Bucket Metaphor:
If you think of your anxiety as a bucket filled with water, you do not need to empty it, but rather just take a scoop or two out such that it is no longer overflowing. In this way, you can learn to live with it even if it will never completely go away. See the above resources for methods to take a scoop out.
